Guava Littorale

This Brazilian native is a highly ornamental tree as well as producing delicious fruit high in Vitamin A. The new foliage growth is bronze maturing to glossy green, leathery foliage. White flowers in spring followed by yellow fruit. Likes a sunny spot and nice rich loam to do well. Evergreen.

Guavas cope with light frost but place them where they get the most protection from harsh weather. They appreciate a side dressing of well balanced fertilizer at least once a year.

Hazelnuts are highly valued for their delicious taste plus the fact that they are high in protein and unsaturated fat. 'Appleby' produces good yields of medium sized nuts and appears to do better in warmer areas of NZ. Pollinate with 'Ennis' or 'Merveille de Bolwillier'. Deciduous.

Harvest your Hazelnuts as they drop in February and March. Dry thoroughly prior to storage.

Hazelnuts are highly valued for their delicious taste plus the fact that they are high in protein and unsaturated fat. 'Auckland 2' flowers over a long period and is valued as a pollinator for other Hazelnuts but it is not considered to be a particularly high producer itself. Deciduous.

This twisting, twining fruiting vine will need a strong support system. Plant in a sunny well drained spot in deep fertile soil. Cream flowers appear in spring, followed by brown furry fruit that ripen around autumn. Prune no later than mid winter. Deciduous.

Kiwi Fruit are such rapid growers they benefit from regular applications of a high nitrogen fertilizer. It is recommend in spring, early summer and mid summer. Must be planted with a male vine to ensure pollination and fruit set.

Loquat Mogi

The Loquat forms a handsome evergreen tree with long leathery leaves. In winter white 'woolly' fragrant flowers appear followed by golden yellow rounded fruit in summer. The flesh is firm tasting like a cross between an apricot and plum. Plant in a sunny spot and protect from harsh frost.
