Alba
The word Alba means white and relates to the original form of this ancient rose that goes back in horticultural history to before the Roman Empire. You may be more familiar with the name "White Rose of York". Alba roses also come in other shades, mostly pastel and pink. Alba roses generally form large shrubs and are sometimes referred to as tree roses. They are particularly beautiful in form with a high quality perfume.

The foliage is grey/green and mostly resistant to disease; such is the strong constitution of this species. Tolerant of some shade and poor soils, they will even cope with a period of drought better than most roses. The flowers appear throughout spring but do not repeat. The growth is strong, upright and arching.
Maintenance is by cutting out any wayward unwanted shoots and dead heading in summer. Combine Alba roses in your shrubbery or border and they will add a quiet charm that you are sure to enjoy.

The Fairy
This Polyantha rose should really be part of the 'Pollyanna' group as it always looks so cheerful. The pretty pink trusses of small, globular, double blooms appear in joyful abundance from spring right through to winter. The mid green foliage is nice and glossy and shows good disease resistance. 1932.
The Fairy is a great rose for group planting or using as a ground cover rose. It is tolerant of poorer soils and will even cope with a little shade. The Fairy is happy in a container and copes well with a haircut at just about any time. Recommended.
