Floribunda
In horticulture this group of roses is described as having great floriferousness! Imagine showing someone around your garden after a gin or 3 and using that word to describe your lovely roses. What this "mouthful" really means is that Floribunda roses have colourful, continuous, long lasting displays of flowers from spring until autumn. Where would our parks and display gardens be without the Floribunda rose? Certainly seriously depleted of colour and bloom.

There are literally 1,000's of Floribunda roses to choose from so it is not really apropriate to list their characteristics here as being common to all. Suffice to say that Floribundas are versatile bush roses that have clusters of blooms in every rose colour and combination imaginable. They are not known particularly for their perfume but many do have a pleasant fragrance. Use for bedding, hedging, group planting, border, tubs and urns. Look out for climbing versions as well. If you love to fill the house with flowers then Floribunda Roses are very useful for indoor display.
You may find it of interest to know that the word Floribunda is relatively modern in Rose terms and that this classification did not occur until the 1950's. Floribundas started their journey in horticulture from crossing R. moschata with R. multiflora and R. chinensis. This led to a group of roses called Polypompons. Isn't that a wonderful word? Eventually these in turn were called Polyantha roses. Polyantha roses were crossed with Hybrid Tea roses to give us what we now know as Floribundas. Blooming marvelous!
