Hybrid Perpetuals
This is quite a large group of roses with mixed parentage incorporating many of the best features of their more old fashioned predecessors. Popular in the mid 1800';s, during the reign of Queen Victoria, when Hybrid Perpetuals were widely used as an exhibition rose. The development of the Hybrid Perpetual (so named for the repeat flowering characteristic) is considered by Rosarians to be an important era in the overall development of the rose. Hybrid Perpetuals could be considered the fore-runner to the modern Hybrid Tea as they were some of the first roses to have high pointed buds.

Highly valued for the ability to repeat flower, vigorous habit and powerful scent. The growth is usually tall and upright and many varieties can be used as a small climber or background rose, trained against a wall or fence. These roses have played an important role in history and because of their beauty will no doubt continue well into the future.
