Portland

The Portland rose could be used as a symbol for the European Union as it is reputed to have been brought to England from Italy by the Duchess of Portland back in the 1800's and then made its way to France. The French at the time were passionate about roses and the hybridists from the Imperial Gardens continued breeding the original rose to achieve the charming little group that gardeners still love today.
