Grape pruning (from Gary)
Monday, 1st September 2008 02:01:35 PM

I imported some Albany Surprise canes into Australia a couple of years ago & they have been growing in the ground for about a year after getting them back from quarantine. I am about to start pruning them but can you suggest the best way. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gary

Grapes are usually pruned back to the main stem or to the main structure that you have created perhaps leaving small little branchlets that have a coupls buds within. If the vine is new some long growths may be left say along a fence line to create the structure and thus pruned back to this every year
