Daffodils (from Gary) Friday, 15th August 2008 08:12:30 AM
Hi there. Can anyone tell me why my daffodils are not propagating themselves. They have been in the ground fror 3 or 4 years and each year they come up but only produce one flower each, instead of forming clumps and lots of blooms??

Hi, There can be several reasons for bulbs not to perform. Too shady a position, not feeding the ground and particularly after flowering. Some people remove the foliage as its messy but the bulb needs the foliage to stay to replenish the bulb. Sometimes the bulbs get kinda pot or bulb bound and need lifting and separating to renew there vigor. This may be more the case with the more sensitive hybrid varieties.
