Can you please tell me the best way to de-head roses many thanks Lesley

I dead head mine by count 5 leaves up from where the flower shoot starts rather than just taking off the finished flower. Rose bush looks like its had a winter prune but will flush with leaves in a couple of weeks and be in full bloom in a total of 7 provided it gets food and water
