aka Japanese Bloodgrass

Blood-red spikes that fade to bright green at the base and become translucent with age make this grass a spectacular addition to the perennial border. It takes a while to strut its stuff, but in late summer, it shines like a jewel before it dies back. A real eye catcher.

Particularly effective planted with other grasses, or shown off in a container.

A rhizomatous perennial 'Rush' that forms a dense clump of tall, arching, leafless stems in bright green. Small brown flowers heads appear most of the year on top of the stems. Tolerates sandy soil and quite wet conditions but equally can be used as an architectural container plant. Evergreen.

This plant is popular for revegetation of coastal areas and is quite hardy and easy to grow. Tolerates light frosts.
