These fascinating plants are wonderful examples of how adaptable nature is. In order to handle drought conditions, succulent plants have the ability to store moisture which they use slowly, enabling them to survive until the next rain comes.  Water is stored in the thick fleshy leaves, swollen stems and sometimes even in the roots.  There are literally thousands of species in this Genus and because they are so tolerant and easy to grow, once the succulent bug has bitten you, you will want to become a collector of these fascinating plants.
