One of the biggest misconceptions in the world of gardening is that Roses are difficult and time-consuming to grow. Nothing could be further from the truth. Roses are easy to grow and are amongst the most tolerant of plants. Obviously, with the correct feeding and cultivation techniques they will perform to their absolute best. However even if you are the most neglectful gardener you should still be able to enjoy the perfection of a rose bush in bloom. After all Roses have endured since time as we know it began, and are still the most popular flower in the world today. So feel the fear and do it anyway - plant a rose or three. Moss. An exquisite rose with tight buds clad with dark green 'moss' that open to reveal small flowers in sumptuous maroon-black highlighted with golden stamens. The blooms carry a sweet fragrance and appear in summer. Small dainty leaves and few prickles. France 1845.

Pronounced 'Nwee duh yoong' this rose is named for poet Edward Young whose poem 'Night Thoughts' was very popular in the 19th century.

China. This important heritage rose has been cultivated in China for centuries and was introduced to Europe around 1750. It has been used extensively as a 'parent' breeding rose. Small semi-double blooms of pink that fade as they age. Nicely fragrant with light green foliage and few thorns.

'Old Blush' will flower for months and will grow quite happily in light shade, tolerant of poorer soils. It does not like to completely dry out in summer.

I grow this rose in my garden and find it to be very reliable and a good performer. Seldom without a flower through-out the season.
