Floribunda. Well you will really get your groove on with this award winning NZ bred rose. The bright red blooms open with a patch of orange-yellow in the centre and on the reverse. This quickly fades leaving lightly scented 'painted' flowers of red and white set against dark foliage. PVR. 1988.

Species. Bursting with lightly scented, usually flesh pink flowers (though they can be pinker or whitish) in summer. They are followed by a terrific show of bright red hips.The stems are prickly, which is one very good reason why it's invariably grown in an informal mixed hedge, helping to keep out neighbour's pets and intruders hence it's common name Dog Rose. Species. Discovered in Western China in 1890 this special rose has simple yet beautiful red blooms with dark stamens. The foliage is a dark blue-green set on open thorny stems. Flowers in the summer only but rewards you thereafter with an abundant crop of orange-red elongated hips. Deciduous.
Rosa moyesii will tolerate quite poor soils. This rose should only be pruned very lightly immediately after flowering.

Species. A natural seedling of Rosa moyesii but with a more compact habit. Still a tall and vigorous rose all the same. The exquisite, single flowers are crimson red with golden stamens and are followed by highly decorative orange hips. Prune with a light hand after the summer flowering. 1938.

Damask. An ancient Rose that has an uncertain history but could possibly be from Iran. The dark pink-purple rosette shaped blooms are borne on slender stems in summer and have a strong fragrance. Responds well to hard pruning. To quote the Rosarian Peter Beales " well worth a place in any garden".

Gallica. AKA Gallica versicolour. An ancient rose (12th -17th Century) that is the stuff of myth and legend. It is hardy with few thorns and matt green foliage. The semi-double blooms are a very striking combination of crimson, pink and are pleasantly scented. Summer flowering. Deciduous

Floribunda. Dark green foliage with coppery red tones to the new growth. Large clusters of deep carmine blooms that are fully double and lightly scented appear continuously throughout the summer. Dense compact habit, from the Netherlands - 1954.

Rugosa. This strongly scented rose has beautiful semi-double, velvety wine-red flowers with a hint of purple. It is constantly in bloom over a long period. One of the best loved Rugosas with good reason. Nice dark green foliage which colours well in the autumn. Very hardy and tolerant. 1901.
The strongly scented flowers are followed by giant tomato-shaped hips.
