Grevillea is an evergreen shrub with curiously shaped flowers, hence it’s common names Spider Flower, Silky Oak and Toothbrush plant.
Add winter colour to your garden with Grevillea, they grow in most NZ climates, some varieties will not tolerate frost, so choose the plant best suited to your environment. Flowers appear generally from winter into summer, some varieties flower year-round. Easy to grow and easy care, Grevillea like a sunny sheltered position. This mat-forming shrub has deeply lobed evergreen leaves and burgundy-red spring flowers. The oak-like leaves of 'Aussie Crawl' are alternately borne on trailing, carpeting stems. The leaves flush bronze and mature to dark green. Toothbrush-shaped clusters of dark red flowers appear along the stems from late winter to late spring, and sometimes again in fall.

Grevillea Deua Flame is an evergreen spreading shrub to 2m high. It comes naturally from a small area of the NSW south coast. It is a prolific flowering shrub providing colour most of the year. The only maintenance required is some light pruning to maintain a dense shape.

The Grevillea family do not like artificial fertilizer especially those with phosphate. If in doubt don't.

Silky Oak. A rapid growing evergreen tree with, large handsome, fern like leaves that are deep green above and grey-green underneath. Once mature this tree has rich gold blooms that decorate the tree from spring to summer. Loves a warm position and well drained soil. Tolerant of light frost.
The 'Silky Oak' may take up to 10 years to start flowering however this tree has such a nice shape and form that it is worthy of planting even if it never flowers.

This smaller growing, compact cultivar grows to just 1 m x 1 m and has bright green, dense foliage. Regarded as frost hardy, this Grevillea adapts well to partial shade although full sun is preferred. Most well-drained soils are suitable.
