It's that time when I say thanks for all your custom, friendship and for being the most amazing readership! It is wonderful knowing I don't just write into a huge void as every week I get the most awesome responses to this weekly email, blog, call it what you will. These stories, comments, anecdotes and even the corrections mean so much to us all here, we share them around, usually at our weekly meeting. It confirms that on the whole, we do it right.
My aim and hope, first and foremost, is to provide a weekly chuckle, some relevant tips on whats happening in the garden and more so that gardening is fun and really not that complicated, even those tongue twister Latin names aren't so bad... which I'm never sure how to pronounce, LOL,much to the amusement of the Argentinians that work here.
I have to say that it is so very much my passion and it never stops. No matter where I am, what I look at, I see plants, trees and all things that grow, first and foremost, and all in their glory and it's neat to share with you what I know. I can't imagine my life without Wairere... so straight up A huge Thanks!!!!
On that note we will be taking a break from our weekly blog to have a rest along with the rest of the country LOL and take some space to start planning 2019 which is just around the corner now. A new year comes full of promise, hopefully no major surprises, to start planning to be even better this coming year.
Have we become a tropical island
Its been so hot and steamy lately and yes, I am referring to the weather, hehe. Gosh, I don't remember a season like it. I think that we have had two electrical storms (40 ml plus each time in the rain gauge) in a row which seem to be followed by quite high temps and everything is still romping away which proves that food and water make plants just grow and grow. I went and checked on my Zucchini just now and picked at least 8 and thought goodness they have just swung into production and what am I going to do with them all when they really get going.
Most of the hedges have been done but my guess is that the team are going to have to do them all over again when they are back from their respective holidays.
Bergamot and not the kind used to flavour Earl Grey
Meet the Monarda's or
Monarda didyma and its cultivars, commonly called Bee balm or Bergamot.
Just for the record this is not the same as the herb that is used to scent that Earl Grey tea but is commonly called Bergamot because its leaves are fragrant and reminiscent of that herb.
I think that these are way cool adding stunning bright colour to the garden and these that we have to offer are from the Proven winners series of plant which means that they are superior performers. Great plant for the garden or perennial border with mass colour and the fragrance will have you wanting a cup of Earl Grey when you're back inside... well maybe.
There are the four colours in stock right now named Pardon My Cerise, My Purple, My Lavender, and My Pink and these could look pretty cool in the informal rose garden for that colourful cottage look.
This weeks incoming stock was all about colour and Ang couldn't resist some more
Salvia as these were so colourful and a great addition to a colourful garden so Salvia
Pink Dawn and
Violet Riot arrived with the Monarda.

Blue Angel is an amazing blue colour... I just adore blue flowers and so we couldn't go past getting some more of these in.
Verbascum Southern charm has tall spires of lavender and buff. These grow from a rosette of leaves and then the tall spire emerges looking along the same style as a foxglove. A true perennial so when the spike has finished remove it and a new one should follow..
Cosmos Black Magic is an old favourite with velvety brown flowers that smell like chocolate... isn't the plant world wonderful... the colour and fragrance of chocolate... really and yes.
Lastly we grabbed some
Begonia Dark Elegance as I thought, with their red flowers, these looked quite Christmassy and would look quite neat on an outside table setting for Xmas... Typical begonia look but with dark leaves and attractive red flowers.
Just a few more as we had sold these all
New Zealand's own version of the Christmas tree , yep you guessed right, the gorgeous
Pohutukawa and these are flowering their heads off right now. We had sold all that we had of these beauties but just managed to score some more
Maori Princess and
Vibrance as well as 5 large grade
excelsa plants and even with some flower so ideal for a largish pot and a NZ flavour Xmas tree if you haven't sorted that at this stage of the season.
Vouchers and Gift Ideas
Wairere Vouchers are something that we have available all year round. They can be purchased as a physical card to add to a basket or gift or you can have them sent direct to an email or phone as an e-voucher. It can be the perfect gift for sending a gardening friend as they get to choose the plants that suit their garden and space. There is still time to send
evouchers but we can no longer courier anything as we have run out of time.
There is even still a good range of pots and many at 50% off so maybe you could team a pot and a plant like a
standard rose together.
Only closed Christmas day
Remember we are only closed for Christmas day otherwise we are open every day, including stats, at normal hours, being
8.30 to 5 pm so if you are visiting from out of town or have visitors then come on out for a browse. The nursery is worth a look as is the garden. If its a bit overgrown then I'm blaming the rain for making the plants all grow like triffids.
